Southwell Racecourse
Southwell Racecourse is close to the River Trent that is situated in the East Midlands just 15 miles away from Nottingham. The course is all weather, meaning races take place all year round. The left handed course is an oval shape, and features six portable fences.
History
The racecourse at Southwell has been around since as long ago as 1850. In 1886, the racecourse had its first grandstand, although riding conditions were difficult. However, in 1897 it was decided a new track was to be made and almost seventy years later a new enclosure stand was built and opened in 1965. The track became all weather in 1989, which is also the year Southwell held an all-weather National Hunt meeting for the first time.
Southwell Racecourse
Since then, the racecourse has attracted many famous jockeys to its grounds such as Frankie Dettori, who has won Royal Ascot 23 times. Southwell Racecourse is now the third busiest racecourse in the UK, and has 74 horse racing fixtures a year.
