Haydock Park Racecourse
Introduction
Haydock Park is the most visited racecourse in the whole of the UK. Situated in the Merseyside village of Haydock, it is in the heart of the North West of England, equidistant from Manchester and Liverpool.
It is a dual purpose racecourse, and it caters year round for enthusiasts of both flat and jumps meetings.
The flat course is a left handed oval of 1 mile 5 furlongs with a run-in of 4.5 furlongs. The National Hunts course has drop fences and a long run-in on the chase course.
History
When Old Golborne Heath racecourse was closed in the late 19th century, the Newton races were transferred to the newly created Haydock Park course, built on 127 acres of land belonging to Lord Newton.
Haydock Park Racecourse
The Newton races had been extremely popular with royalty and locals alike during the 18th and early 19th century and the Old Newton Cup which originated in 1807 is still run at Haydock’s July meeting each year. The highlights nowadays of Haydock Park’s calendar are the Group 1 Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup and the De Vere Gold Cup.

Tickets
There are four enclosures at Haydock Park: Premier, County, Tattersalls and Newton, in descending order of expense.
Ticket prices vary according to fixture and enclosure.
Tickets for midweek events plus all January and February race meetings are priced at £34, £23, £14 and £7.
For weekend fixtures and Friday evenings, the tickets are more expensive at £43, £28, £17 and £9.
For premium dates (24 May, 5 July, 9 August, 6 September and 22 November) tickets are £45, £34, £20 and £10
Discounts are available for groups in the Tattersalls and Newton enclosures and children under the age of 16 are admitted free of charge, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Senior citizens and students with valid NUS ID receive a 50% discount for entry to the Newton and Tattersalls enclosures.

For keen race-goers, an annual membership makes financial sense at only £300. This entitles you to entry to all Haydock Park’s fixtures as well as 26 reciprocal days at other racecourses throughout the UK. It also covers parking, social events, restaurant discounts, use of the County Enclosure and opportunities to see behind the scenes, visit the stables, meet racing personalities and join the Club’s ownership syndicates.
For those aged 21 and under, a Junior Annual membership is available at £80.
Eating and Drinking
There is a good variety of eating and drinking places at Haydock Park, ranging from cafes and bars serving hot and cold food and snacks, to a selection of more formal restaurants.
Colours, a modern bistro-style restaurant, offers a 3 course lunch and entry package to the races for £75. The luxurious Park Suite Restaurant offers a four course meal and entry package for £100, whilst the less formal Harry’s Bistro offers a 3 course meal and entry for £100. A dress code exists for men in the County Enclosure, with no jeans, trainers, t-shirts or track suits allowed. Jackets and ties are required if entering the Park Suite Restaurant or Premier Enclosure.
Directions
By Car
The racecourse is just off Junction 23 on the M6, with easy access from the A580 linking Manchester and Liverpool and from the M56, M61 and the M58.
By Bus
The racecourse is served by the no. 620 bus service from Ashton to Haydock and the no. 320 service from St Helens to Wigan.
By Train
The closest station to Haydock Park is Newton-le-Willows on the Manchester Piccadilly to Liverpool Lime Street line. Other branch lines near the course are Ashton-in-Makerfield and St Helens. The Haydock Park Xpress bus service runs from St Helens Central and Newton-le-Willows, from two hours before the first race, to one hour after the last, on Saturdays and Sundays only.
If travelling from London or Glasgow, the nearest stations are Warrington and Wigan, both about 8 miles from the racecourse.
